I’m still a Mac but I like the new Ad

Microsoft finally came out with a pretty good counter punch to the I’m a Mac ads that have been mocking the PC for a few years now. It briefly starts off with a Hodgman lookalike ( who apparetly is an employee sean@windows.com ) that says he has been made in to a sterotype… it then shows various people including some famous people saying I’m a PC and generally something cool about themselves.
I think this type of ad is great because it goes directly at what Apple is trying to make people feel, PC’s are for losers. Now I know Apple is talking about the computer and not the users, but because of how corny PC is portrayed it does lead you to feel that you shouldn’t be caught dead with one.
CP+B took a lot of crap for the Seinfeld ads, I hope at some point there is an article talking about the direction/strategy they were trying to go.
Anyways click the image to watch the ad and you can read TechCrunch’s take on it.

I totally agree. I think that the new campaign is finally picking up a little steam. It’s just so weird how long it’s taken MS to respond. I mean if Pepsi was directly punking Coke for 2 years you can bet Coke would be stompin’ them back into 2nd place (and I like Pepsi!).

Don, its basic marketing. People who do the most advertising are the ones making the least money, or needing to increase their share of the market. Microsoft is like 95% of the computer market and not really losing much ground. There were no real reasons for them to rebut Apple. I think these commercials are more about improving Microsoft’s image than answering Apple. Apple has its niche, but its not a threat, yet Microsoft has a black eye with Vista. There has to be some rebuilt goodwill before Windows 7 to avoid MS’s approval taking a George Bush type dive. That said, I say just think about the way advertising works. Apple is making ads to try to convert PC users (they want more of the market). Microsoft is just building goodwill and doesn’t need to convert Apple users. All I have to say is that Vista is actually very nice if you have good hardware, but Linux is almost ready to compete with Apple. Main selling point, MS and Apple sell OSs for hundreds. Linux is FREE, along with all its software, which you have to buy aftermarket for the other OSs.
